Cheddar 1 Vs Burnham SOMERSET CUP MATCH

With a half term break from league hockey Cheddar hosted Burnham Ladies in the first round of the Somerset knock out cup.

Burnham settled the quicker and created several chances in the first 10 minutes but then captain Emily Bear cleared from the half way line to Kirstie Sugg who combined well with Lauren Frost before Sugg put Cheddar ahead. Minutes later a Sarah Hind/Grace White combination gave Sugg her 2nd with a sharp shot from the top of the D. Sophie Warren gave Cheddar a 3-0 half time lead with a lifted shot over the GK . Burnham rallied after the interval and put Cheddar under pressure but Vicki Bear, Megan Jones and Sally Gowan kept shots to a minimum. Burnham’s GK was called into action to thwart 2 more Sugg/Frost attacks . A fabulous block denied Sarah Hind and a goal line clearance prevented Cheddar adding to their score. Burnham worked hard to get back into the game but  Cheddar’s GK Rachel Rousell was determined to keep a clean sheet and made some great blocks and a one handed save. Another goal was needed and when Sugg picked up the ball on the half way line and ran through Burnham’s defence Warren was there in support for the slip pass to score her 2nd. Burnham’s heads went down as Cheddar piled on the pressure with midfield Sian Snelgrove, Jo White , Lotte Perry, Grace White and Hind dominating. Sugg added 2 further goals and Lois Tarr was rewarded for her hard work with a lovely strike at a short corner routine set up by Frost
