Match Report | Cheddar needed to continue their good run of results to ensure they moved out of the relegation zone. They got off to a flying start earning a short corner after only 5 minutes. A strong injection by Jo White enabled Karen Stanley to fire home. Their lead was soon increased thanks to a surging run down the right by captain Julie Callow. Her cross flew off a defenders stick only for White to show off her tennis skills and volley the ball into the net. Cheddars defensive set up denied Redland any clear cut chances and with Tina Stoyles, Sian Snelgrove and Jacky Farley holding the midfield it was surely only a matter of time before another goal would come. And so it proved to be with good interplay between Callow and White around the circle set up Stanley for her 2nd and so Cheddar went into the break with a commanding lead. Redland came out in the sending half with a different mind set and began to put Cheddar under pressure. Eventually they were rewarded with a goal as a touch put the ball beyond Julie Rogers dive. Cheddar struggled to match their first half performance although Jo Teagle came close but her attempt was smothered by the keeper. Redland pushed for another goal but Anna Athay, Jo Franks, Sally Dempsey, Verity Adams and Susan Taylor were determined to hold strong and see the game out. Player of the match was awarded to Tina Stoyles Next week Cheddar are away to Mid Somerset 2nd 2.30pm Wells Blue School - a must win game for both teams |
