Match Report | Cheddar got back to winning ways when they hosted Jaspers 2nd XI a team struggling at the foot of their division. Short corner routines had been failing Cheddar of late but this was the day they paid dividends with Lauren Frost and Millie Warren getting on the score sheet within 15 minutes. Jaspers were struggling with the fitter and faster opposition and it wasn't long before Josie Douglas and Ash Jones combined well with Jones beating the keeper with a reverse sweep shot. Another short corner found Emily Bear at the top of the D and her slip pass found M Warren on the back post to make it 4-0. Jaspers were packing their defence and with a crowded D it wasn't long before another short was awarded and another goal- this time a scramble in front of goal with Douglas eventually getting the ball over the line. In a rare attack Jaspers were awarded a short corner but Sarah Hind was out to block the shot to end the first half. After the interval Jaspers again started with a packed defence and play became scrappy. Cheddar looked more comfortable when on the odd occasion Jaspers pushed out leaving gaps which Cheddar could exploit with their speed. Jo White - stepping up from the 2nds - had a solid game on the right working well with Aimee Wilson. Wilson and Jones interlinked well and the resulting cross was met by Sophie Warren to make it 6. At hit outs Jaspers found it hard to pierce Cheddars press and a poor clearance was well picked up by White whose pass found Douglas with only the keeper to beat which she did with ease. The final goal came - not surprisingly- from a short corner. This time it was a pass by Lauren Civil- Holt at the top of the D that again found player of the match Millie Warren to score her hat trick . Cheddar needed this win to give them a boost going into their final 2 games of the season |
