Cheddar 1 Vs Old Bristolians 2nds

Cheddar sought revenge for a 2-1 defeat earlier in the season when they hosted Old Bristolians 2nd team. Both teams took a while to settle and it was 10 minutes before either GK was called into action as the defences came out on top. Lauren Frost and Lotte Perry went close for Cheddar before some sustained pressure from Old B's earned them a couple of short corners. Vicki Bear was quickly out to block the shots on goal and by half time the game remained goal less. A change in Cheddar's formation resulted in a higher press putting Old B's on the back foot. Cheddars midfield were having a real tussle with their opposite numbers but Emily Bear, Lauren Civil-Holt Zoe Humber and Megan Jones began to dominate and Old B's were restricted to a few attacks down their right. After 15 minutes Vicki Bear picked up the ball in defence to find her sister Emily - a surging run and shot deflected up off the GK only to find Frost on the far post to juggle the ball into the net. This gave Cheddar a boost and some great work by Sally Gowan and Aimee Wilson saw Perry just miss. Gowan was then called on to keep Cheddar's advantage when Old B's broke down the right and with a player advantage looked odds on to equalise before Gowan blocked the shot and cleared. Player of the match Lauren Civil- Holt was outstanding in midfield and it was her pass to Ashleigh Jones and her cracking shot that made it 2-0. Old B's were not going to give up without a fight and a free hit was fed out to the right forward- her cross whizzed across the face of goal finding her captain on the far post to give the Cheddar's GK no chance. Old B's upped their game but Cheddar were able to see out the last 5 minutes for 2-1 win and a great all round team performance. This keeps Cheddar in 3rd spot in Brunel Div 1. Next week they are away to Keynsham
