Match Report

Cheddar met Shepton Mallet in another crucial fixture with both teams eager for the win to move them into the top third of the division. Goalkeepers Rachel Rousell and Jude Eastick were soon called into action as both teams battled for an early goal. Cheddars forwards were showing great turn of pace but could not finish off the moves in part due to some great defence by Mads Street playing against her former club .  Kirstie Sugg thought she had suceeded only to be denied by a great tip over the cross bar by Eastick. Play continued to flow from end to end but  at half time the defences had come out on top. After the interval the pattern continued  although Cheddars forwards were beginning to outpace Shepton and when Sugg went on another diagonal run from the half way line her cross found Lauren Frost who's first time sweep gave the gk no chance. Lotte Perry, Lois Tarr and Sophie Warren were growing in confidence and their determination set up Sugg whose strike was again parried out by Eastick. However another move by the youngsters earned them a short corner- capt Bear ejected to Sugg whose strike increased Cheddars lead.  Shepton came back strongly but they were no match for Sally Gowen Emily Bear Megan Jones and Zoe Humber who all showed great composure defending short corners and making some fine interceptions throughout the game.Sally Gowen was awarded Player of the match for Cheddar Both teams should be congratulated for a very skillful and entertaining  game played in good spirit . This win moved Cheddar up to joint 3rd place and next week they will host 2nd place North Somerset 10am at Cheddar Kings Leisure and fitness centre
