Cheddar 2nds played their last game of the season knowing that a win or a draw would mean top place in Brunel Div 3 . They started in a positive manner with captain Julie Callow setting a fine example as she controlled midfield but the shots on goal seemed rushed as all were keen to get on the score sheet. The first goal eventually came with Grace White winning the ball in her own half before offloading to Callow who in turn found Louise Denham and her cracking shot gave the gk no chance. Callow then provided Cheddar's 2nd with a quickly taken free hit , driving along the backline before crossing for Lauren Frost to net. Cheddars defence stifled the Knowle attacks with Sally Dempsey, Penny Cornish, Susan Taylor and Jess Frost working well . Jo White , Lauren Frost, Millie Stoyles and Lois Tarr were too quick for their opposition and Cheddar made it 3-0 at half time with Tarr setting up L.Frost . A short corner gave Frost the chance to score a hat trick but her celebration was cut short as the whistle had gone to give another short. After the interval Knowle pressed down the right but a good centre went across the face of goal with no one to add the finishing touch. Cheddar continued to make use of rolling subs with everyone adapting well particularly Tina Stoyles and Lois Tarr .Cheddars final goal came when a free hit was awarded on the half way line - Issy Baines took a quick self pass before firing the ball into the D- Jo Teagle calmly controlled the ball before slotting it past the advancing goalkeeper.This was an excellent all round team performance and thanks must be given to Paul Cornish for his umpiring throughout the season. Cheddar looked forward to next season in the higher division
