Match Report

Cheddar ended their season with a rearranged league fixture against Nailsea knowing 2nd place was already secure but Nailsea hoping for a win to avoid possible relegation. Both teams struggled at first to cope with a bumpy pitch and chances were few and far between . Lauren Frost in her debut for the first team then gave Cheddar the lead when her bouncy shot was miss judged by the Nailsea GK.. Millie Norman came close to adding a second but then Nailsea broke out of defence and were denied an equaliser with a fine save by Rachel Rousell. After the interval Nailsea put Cheddar under pressure and were rewarded with a short corner which they converted with ease to make it 1-1. This spurred Cheddar into action and when Emily Bear took a quick free to drive into the D she won a short corner. Millie Warren injected to Millie Norman who laid the ball back to Warren to fire in from a narrow angle restoring Cheddars lead. Lauren Frost was growing in confidence and was troubling Nailsea with her speed of attack as was Millie Norman who ran onto a pass from 30 metres drove into the D and hammered a shot home to give Cheddar a 3-1 win. Cheddars young forwards Norman, Frost, Lotte Perry and Sophie Warren with an average age of 15 show great promise for next year. Player of the match was Millie Warren. Cheddars captain Beth Gould played her last game for Cheddar as she and her young family are emigrating to Australia in the summer and the club wish her all the best for the future and thank her for all the hard work and time she has given to Cheddar Hockey Club
