Match Report

In their last league game before the Christmas breakCheddar defeated Nailsea 4-1 and in doing so moved back up to 2nd place in Brunel Div 1. They started full of purpose and soon had Nailsea's defence pushed back in their own half calling their goalkeeper into early action with some great saves. Despite the pressure exerted Cheddar could not find the clinical finishing which has deserted them in recent games and short corners were not productive. The deadlock was eventually broken by Kirstie Sugg collecting  a ball on the right wing and placing her shot wide of the gk.Nailsea scored a break away goal just before half time to let Cheddar know they had to up their game if they wanted the 3 points. Cheddars midfield of Millie Warren, Zoe Humber and Sarah Hinds were working hard  with Nicky Baines and Emily Bear slotting in well. A tactical change saw Ashleigh Jones pushed up to left forward which gave Cheddar a boost. Sugg hit the post and then Sophie Warren shot was parried by the gk only for Jones to lift the rebound just inside the post to give Cheddar the lead. A clearance from Beth Gould to Mads Street found Jones with a first time shot well saved but quick relexes and  the rebound was snapped up again by Jones to net. Nailsea came close to pulling one back with a break and shot but Rachel Rousell was quick to cover her right post to keep the ball out. Then with minutes to go Nailsea's gk decided to play the ball out of her circle but her attempted clearance was picked up by Sugg who drilled the ball into the empty goal mouth. Player of the match was awarded to Ash Jones
