Cheddar 2 Vs Mendip 3rds

Promotion to Brunel 2 is now in the hands of Cheddar 2nds after they beat rivals Mendip 3rds 1-0 to move 3 points clear with both teams having 2 games remaining. As expected this was a keenly contested match with so much resting on the result and although both teams were distributing the ball well the decisive finishing in the final third was somewhat lacking. Cheddars  Tina Stoyles, Issy and Nicky Baines and captain Julie Callow worked hard to keep control of midfield and feed the lively forwards Jo White, Millie Stoyles, Louise Denham and Lauren Frost but Mendips defence stood firm and at half time the score remained 0-0. After the break Cheddar upped their game and were rewarded after Issy Baines- miss cool- weaved her way down the left flank feeding Millie Stoyles who took the ball into the D and smashed the ball past the advacing GK. As Cheddar pushed to increase their lead Mendip relied on quick breaks but Cheddars defence of Holly Baines, Susan Taylor, Anna Athay, Penny Cornish, Sally Dempsey and Jo Teagle were determined to keep a clean sheet as was GK Rogers. It was always likely that the match would be decided by the odd goal as was the case and Cheddar's squad of 15 deserve praise for giving 100% with scorer Millie Stoyles earning player of the match. Fixture next week away to Westberries 5ths
