Cheddar 1 Vs North Somerset

On a grey and dreary day Cheddar 1sts travelled to Gordano for an encounter with North Somerset 1sts. This is normally a highly close and competitive game, and this match was no exception.

Cheddar were on the back foot for most of the opening encounters and had to defend well, with some excellent work from Captain Beth Gould, however Cheddar went a goal down after some lovely play from North Somerset’s Number 17.

After this goal Cheddar seemed to find their feet and were more attacking and levelled the score with a goal from Milly Norman, followed up by a second from Kirsty Sugg.

At half time the visiting team were a goal to the good up in a very open and attacking first half with excellent hockey on show from both teams.

Into the second half and Cheddar found themselves 3-1 up with a second from Kirsty Sugg, but a North Somerset hat-trick soon saw the score line level. The game was there to be won with chances on both sides, but a superb goal from Millie Warren minutes from the end sealed the deal and Cheddar were well deserved winners. Player of the match was Millie Warren following an excellent all-round performance.

Next week sees Cheddar 1st currently lying second in the division home to Old B’s.
