Cheddar 1 Vs Mendip 2nds

League fixtures resumed after the winter break with Cheddar 1st team hosting Mendip 2nds. Cheddar were sluggish from the start and Mendip soon took the lead when a defensive clearance was well picked up and slotted into the goal by Carol Holmes. Cheddar were struggling to find any cohesion and many passes went astray as Mendip pressed Cheddar into making mistakes. Mendip played some of their best hockey of the season and were able to restrict Cheddar's attempts on goal until the last play of the first half saw Dani Frost equalise. This was the confidence boost they needed and with a stiff half time talk Cheddar came out all guns blazing. The midfield of Frost , Sarah Hind, Zoe Humber and Millie Warren were beginning to dominate giving the forwards much more ball and with capt Beth Gould Ash Jones and Mads Street breaking from defence Mendip had to dig deep to keep in the game. Zoe Humber battled to win a short corner and from this set play Kirstie Sugg gave Cheddar the lead. Aimee Wilson was growing in confidence and a great through ball saw Sophie Warren's connection narrowly miss. Sugg ran 50 metres to lay the ball off to hard working Millie Norman but she just failed to connect.More pressure earned Cheddar a short corner and from this shots rained in on goal, hitting the post , 2 point blank saves from the gk before Gould found the net to give Cheddar a 3-1 win and maintain their 2nd position in the league
