Match Report | Mendip 3rd XI 3 Cheddar 2nd XI 1 This was an encounter between the 2 unbeaten teams in Brunel Div 3 and it was Mendip who preserved their unbeaten record. Cheddar started well with Lois Tarr and Millie Stoyles combining well but it was Mendip who took the lead when some slack marking enabled a free shot from their centre forward. Issy Baines was unlucky not to equalise when her shot was cleared off the line. However Mendip created the better chances as Cheddar struggled with their marking. A short corner was well saved by Julie Rogers and another well defended by Anna Athay. Tarr found space down the right wing and her cross was met by captain Callow but her high shot just missed the right post. After the interval Mendip again earned a short corner but again Athay was quick to clear. After 5 minutes Mendip were awarded a free hit which was quickly taken catching Cheddar napping and a cross and first time shot gave Rogers no chance. Cheddar upped their game and a pass from Aimee Wilson found Baines who in turn fed out to Tarr. Her cross found Millie Stoyles in the circle and with a great touch Stoyles placed the ball beyond the advancing GK to give Cheddar some hope. However it was Mendip who scored their 3rd following a scramble in front of goal. Jess Frost stopped a shot on the goal line but only a short was given which Cheddar cleared and then it was Mendip’s turn to make a goal line clearance. Cheddar did well defending 2 more short corners as Mendip ran out with a deserved win. Cheddars player of the match Sally Dempsey |
