Cheddar 1st XI     3    Somerset Gryphons  2nd XI     0

Cheddar with a strong squad were confident of another positive result when they hosted Gryphons. From the start it was clear that Cheddar would need to find a way to penetrate an experienced packed defence and Gryphons hoping their very young forward line would be able to score on a break away. Play was scrappy with passes going astray and Cheddar struggled to create many clear cut chances. Gryphons GK was on top form but she was unable to keep out Lotte Perry’s neat flick to give Cheddar the lead. The only other highlight of the first half from Cheddar was their 2nd goal a family affair with Millie Warren finding sister Sophie who coolly slotted the ball past the advancing GK. After the interval Cheddar’s passing was much improved with Kirstie Sugg’s determined run setting up Millie Warren to put the ball in the net only to find the whistle had already gone for a short corner from which Sugg was denied a goal by a great save. Perry, S Warren and Dani Frost were working well down the right and putting the GK under fire but save after save was made. A well worked short corner routine saw Cheddar celebrating but the goal was quite rightly disallowed for not coming out of the circle. Gryphons had a couple of break away attempts as Beth Gould pushed up to give her support but Mads Street and Ash Jones were quick to respond to these. Cheddars player of the match Dani Frost continued to trouble the left defence of Gryphons and from her cross the ball the resulting shot was scrambled off the line only for Millie Norman to strike it into the goal. More attacks from Cheddar from all angles but Gryphons player of the match GK was not going to be beaten again and a diving save from Sugg highlighted a fine display. Although the win was satisfying Cheddar missed an opportunity to increase their  goal difference and remain in 3rd place behind Knowle and North Somerset
