This was Cheddars first match against the newly formed 5th team from Winscombe who fielded a very young side. First chance of a goal came from the visitors but GK Julie Rogers kept the shot out. Then 10 minutes into the game Issy Baines made a fine run down the right and along the baseline setting up for Lois Tarr to net. Winscombe were chasing and pressing hard and when a quick free hit was taken the resulting shot just missed the post. Cheddars captain Julie Callow was linking well with Lotte Perry and Lois Tarr but they could not find a way past Vicky Pagett in goal for Winscombe. The score line remained 1-0 at half time. After the interval Winscombe came out with renewed energy and were rewarded with an equaliser. Down the other end Issy Baines weaved her way through earning a short corner but the Callow shot was well saved. Winscombe were not to be outdone and counter attacked but Cheddars defence held strong with Penny Cornish clearing the ranks. Lotte Perry then set up a goal for Callow to restore Cheddar’s lead. Winscombe persevered and both keepers were kept busy but Cheddar held out for the narrow victory.Cheddars Jo White was voted player of the match for her tireless running and tackling.
